Prevent drowning

by Harold Carey Jr

Drowning is the second leading cause of injury-related death in children. The National Safety Council says:
1. Never leave a child alone near water, even for a quick run into the house.
2. Never take your eyes off a child in the water,.
3. Use approved flotation devices rather than inflatable toys.
5. Take toys out of the water and put them away when not in use.
6. Remove steps leading to above-ground pools when not in use.
7. If a child appears to be sitting calmly on the bottom of the pool, assume he is drowning. Go in. Pull him up. Do not hesitate.
